Telecommunications and Networks Engineer

The Telecommunications and Networks Engineer will plan and design the network infrastructure and enterprise network solutions; troubleshoot, install, implement and administer voice, video, and data network systems and provide support for all Secretary of Defense Communications (SDC) supported architectures at the Pentagon.
Other duties include:
Ensuring all systems are Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) compliant.
Examining documentation and assist in implementing any new requirements promulgated by law and government policy.
Researching new software applications and provide recommendations to government management for integration on the existing infrastructure.
Monitoring network performance, providing oral and written recommendations to SDC government management for optimized network performance and quality of service.
Coordinating with the Joint Service Provider (JSP), Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), and other DoD Agencies on a regular basis to resolve network infrastructure issues, and to coordinate new IT projects and modifications to the network infrastructure.
Continuously monitoring network and server system performance. Utilizing various network performance monitoring and reporting tools to provide real time status reports of this performance.
Reviewing upcoming Authorized Service Interruptions (ASIs) from DoD, JSP, and other external sources to determine the impact to the SDC networks and provided government leadership timely recommendations on these ASIs.
Installing cable runs between network servers, interconnections, bridges, repeaters, switches, workstations, and other network equipment as needed. Cable media used includes UTP, coaxial, and fiber optic. Assisting in the installation and labeling of cabling requirements within the work environments and ensure network interoperability and standards are met and maintained.
Troubleshooting and solving local-area network problems; install, test, certify and troubleshoot networking cabling systems; and install and configure network equipment. This includes installing, certifying and troubleshooting network cabling infrastructure.
Job Requirements
Required Education and Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of relevant telecommunications engineering experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience working within DoD network is desirable
Desired Certifications include any of the following:
Networking: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate (JNCIA)
Data Center: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional (JNCIP), Juniper Networks Certified Design Specialist, Data Center (JNCDS-DC), Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
Service Provider: Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), Juniper Networks Certified Internet Expert (JNCIE), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)
Voice: CCNA Voice
Wireless: CCNA Wireless, Blackberry/Samsung/Apple Certifications
Security: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), CompTIA Advanced Security Professional (CASP)
Server: Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
Database Developer: Microsoft Certified Professional SQL
CompTIA Security+ certification

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
